John Neville

1938 - 2021

John Alan Neville, 83, of Middletown, beloved husband of Alice (Butler) Neville, died Thursday, July 15, 2021 at Water's Edge Center for Health and Rehabilitation.

John was born in New Haven, son of the late William and Hazel (Gibbs) Neville. He served in the Army National Guard. Prior to his retirement John was employed for 37 years by the Cromwell Middle School as a teacher and guidance counselor. John was a member of the Civitan International Club in Middletown.

John and Alice travelled extensively. They especially enjoyed talking to the people they met on their travels. He was an avid reader and loved theater productions, attending shows in multiple theaters in Connecticut for many years. He compiled a family genealogy, traveling to track down family records. He loved everything to do with the water. From his childhood in Niantic to the last 30+ years on Leetes Island, his free time was spent sailing, kayaking, clamming and fishing. He earned his Coast Guard Captain's License and offered chartered sailing trips around the coasts of CT and RI and out to Block Island.

Besides, his wife Alice, John is survived by a daughter, Susan Rousseau and her husband Michael of Rhode Island, a son, Robert and his wife Sherri of Norwich CT, two step-sons, Todd Darling and his wife Kathleen of California, David Darling and his wife Joan of Killingworth, CT, a sister, Frances McGrath of Arizona, nine grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister Barbara Kornreich, two brothers, William and Richard Neville, and his stepdaughter Laura Darling.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday August 10th at 10 a.m. at Biega Funeral Home, 3 Silver Street, Middletown. Friends may gather prior to the service from 9 to 10 a.m. Burial will be private.
