Anthony Arthur Varricchio Jr
1959 - 2009



Anthony Arthur Varricchio Jr., 50, of Cromwell, husband of Anita "Susie" (Pupedis) Varricchio, and father of Emmett P. Varricchio, passed away suddenly on Saturday, July 11, 2009 due to accidental drowning, in Cromwell. Born in Hartford, he was the son of Anthony Sr. and Hope (Chapman) Varricchio, of Cromwell.

Tony lived all of his life in Cromwell and was a member, treasurer and former chairman of the Board of Directors at the First Congregational Church in Cromwell. He was president and active member of the I.M.A., member of the Conservation Commission of Cromwell for many years, a member of the Cromwell Outboard Association and was very involved in raising money for the Kuhn Association. Tony was a graduate of Cromwell High School and received an accounting degree from Central Connecticut State University. He was a notary public, certified management accountant, president of the Accounting Association of Connecticut and director of National Accounting Association.

Tony will always be remembered for his competitive nature. He loved fishing and boating with Susie and Emmett, technical gadgets, golfing, playing racquetball with friends and bowling with Emmett, Todd and Daniel. He treasured his friendship with his best friend, Bill DeMore. He was a beloved friend to all. He cherished family outings, Salmon River picnics and vacationing at Highland Lake. He loved challenging his Mom to late night scrabble games. His Dad says, "He is the best son that anyone could have in the world."

Besides his wife, son and parents, he is survived by two brothers, Thomas Varricchio and his wife, Kristen, and their children, Nathan, Nicholas, Morgan and Lucas of Cromwell, and Todd Varricchio and his wife, Nancy, and their children, Amanda and Daniel of Middletown; four uncles, Carmen Varricchio of Cromwell, Egeno Varricchio and his wife, Barbara, of Cromwell, Edwin Chapman and his wife, Norma, of North Carolina and Edward Peete of Essex; five aunts, Rose Hull of Cromwell, Joyce Gesualdi and her husband, Frank, of Wethersfield, Virginia Pierson and her partner, John Snider, of Florida, Jeannine Pitkin and her partner, the Rev. Robert Decker, of Rocky Hill and Beverly Dillon and her husband, Edward, of Wethersfield. He is also survived by his mother-in-law, Velta Pupedis of Cromwell; a sister-in-law, Kitty Pupedis of Lula, Ga.; three brothers-in-law, Ivars Pupedis of Middletown, Imants Pupedis and his wife, Diane, and Raymond Pupedis and his wife, Martha, of Willimantic; and a niece, Amy Wade and her husband, Jason, of Canton, Ga.

He was predeceased by both sets of grandparents and numerous aunts and uncles.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, July 16, at 11 a.m., at First Congregational Church, 355 Main St., Cromwell, with the Rev. Douglas G. J. VanVeldhuisen officiating. Interment will follow in Cromwell Hillside Cemetery, west side, in Cromwell.
