Mary Ann (Brauer) & Robert Duval

Mary Ann Duval, from Cromwell Connecticut graduated from Middletown High School, Middletown Conn, & went on to be employed as Stenographer/Secretary for the State of Connecticut for the Dept. of Farms and Markets.

In 1952 she married Robert Duval (1930-2009)- (her high school sweetheart and who was voted best dancer of his graduating class) who was serving in the U.S. Army, (Korean War). She resigned her job to join Robert at Camp Chaffee, Arkansas. They were later transferred to Baltimore, Maryland, where he was assigned to Counter Intelligence. Upon his discharge from Germany, the Duvals raised 4 children; two girls and two boys. They were also strawberry growers for 22 years (20 acres) at the 'Brauer Farm' in West Cromwell (intersection of Willowbrook and Coles Road). In 1967 MaryAnn returned to work as Executive Secretary for the First Selectman of Cromwell for eight years. She then went on to the State Capital in Hartford as Administrative Assistant to the Deputy Majority Leader and Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives for three terms of the General Assembly.

MaryAnn was elected as Tax Collector of Cromwell in 1977 where she served two years.

In 1979, she and Robert and two of their children (Debra and Timothy), moved to Timber Oaks, Port Richey, Florida. She began working at Beacon Woods Civic Center in August of 1985 as part-time receptionist and Recording Secretary for the Board of Directors. Mary Ann and Robert moved to Beacon Woods in July of 1987. She is currently retired in Port Richey Florida, where she is very active volunteering in her church, loves and is a great bowler, enjoys her 9 grandchildren, and visiting with her sisters Francis Rollish, Agnes Marchinkoski, Ruth Balinski and other nephews who spend the winters close by.
