William A. Eager

On Monday, (September 15, 2008) William A. Eager passed away after a brief illness. Born May 15, 1927, in Middletown, he was the son of the late Albert and Mary (Scheu) Eager of Cromwell. He is survived by his wife Valerie Eager of Cromwell; a daughter and son-in-law, Debra and Ronald Darna of Boynton Beach, FL; a son and daughter-in-law, Donald and Marcia Eager of Wallingford; four grandchildren; four great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. His step-children, Thomas and wife Marie Warenda of Austin, TX, Paul Warenda of Cromwell, and Michael Warenda of Anchorage, AK. He was predeceased by a step-daughter Nanci Warenda. William was also predeceased by his first wife Elizabeth Eager and a brother Richard Eager.

After graduating from Middletown High School in 1945, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy where he was stationed in Pensacola, FL as an aviation machinist mate during the end of World War II. He was a founding member of the Cromwell Outboard Association, an active member of the Cromwell Historical Society, a long time member of the American Legion Post 105, and a past member of the Cromwell Fish and Game Club, where he became an avid outdoorsman.

He retired from the Town of Cromwell in September 1992, after being instrumental in the development and construction of the current sanitation system of the town. He also served many years as the Civil Preparedness director, assisting and aiding many residents of the town during times of need.

The family extends their sincere appreciation to the competent, caring staff on East 2nd Wing of the Cromwell Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center.

Friends may call at the Coughlin-Lastrina Funeral Home, 491 High Street, Middletown, on Friday evening, from 5-7 p.m. as well as Saturday morning, from 9-10 a.m. Burial and committal services will be held on Saturday at 10:30 a.m. in the Rose Hill Memorial Park Cemetery, Rocky Hill.
